Success for Chloe!

Chloe attended an audition at the Gardyne Theatre on Sunday. The audition was for the professional production of Cinderella which will take place from the 8th of December until the 31st of December at the Gardyne Theatre Dundee. Around 80 children auditioned and the lucky few were selected by Rhona Cleland, Scotland’s top choreographer. Chloe was successful and will be in a team of 8 other children. She begins rehearsals in October and is hugely excited to be back on the stage this Christmas in another professional show! Well done Chloe!

Inter Schools Hunter Trials 2018

Sunday 23rd September saw the 4th annual Kilgraston Inter-schools Hunter Trials take place at Foresterseat cross-country course, Glenfarg on what was the most perfect Autumn day. Blue skies and glorious sunshine helped make this event which is growing in popularity each year with over 100 entries from 22 different schools taking part a great success.

The day started with the 1m class and Issie J taking 2nd place

Class 2, the 90cm class saw Kilgraston come out on top to win the teams section (Daisy L, Poppy P, Bernadette McE and Tia H). Poppy P also claimed third place in the individual section.

Class 3 the 75cm was the busiest of the day with nearly 40 entries and again competition was fierce with only a few seconds making the difference in the top placings. Kilgraston girls Mischa S, Charlotte J, Millie L and Maria McE came in an excellent 2nd in what was a very competitive class.

Class 4 was a pairs class which was open to all, where 2 riders jump the course together and have to jump 1 fence side by side and are marked on their jumping effort together, which always makes great viewing!

The last class of the day saw our youngest riders tackling the 60cm. Kilgraston took both first (Hannah A, Mellissa A, Erin McG and Ailsa F) and second place (Ishbel F, Lucy H and Olivia K) in the teams sections.

Well done to all the competitors and a huge thank you to all the jump judges, stewards and helpers on the day.

Unison World School visit to Kilgraston 2018

Unison World School have come over to Kilgraston for their fourth visit. It is so exciting to have the girls and staff here. Our girls will soon be making the journey to India to visit their school. They have a full schedule of events for their time here with us, from trips to Glasgow and Dundee to the very exciting Cultural Evening. All welcome.

Former pupil Ruth Faherty has been featured in Independent Education Today magazine about her passion for engineering and how her interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects was ignited while at Kilgraston…

“After discovering her passion for STEM at Kilgraston School, Ruth Faherty headed to Oxford University to study engineering. She is about to go into her third year at St Catherine’s College, Oxford, and plans to concentrate on civil engineering for the remainder of her degree. Ruth is keen to change the statistics of women in STEM and isn’t afraid to take on big projects in the future…”

Sixth Form at Kilgraston

Kilgraston Equestrian Team members have been out in force over the summer holidays…

Daisy and Millie L have had a great summer (apart from Daisy breaking her jaw!). They both competed in the PC80 regional qualifiers at Auchlishie in showjumping and eventing for Strathearn Pony Club - Daisy won her section and Millie was sixth in her section. This qualified them both for the Regional Championships at the Ian Stark Equestrian Centre in Selkirk. Here, they both did brilliantly, both going clear XC in the eventing section. In the showjumping, Millie and Bacardi were unplaced but did brilliantly, jumping one of only 17 double clears out of 130 competitors.

Issie J and her horse Joey had a great day at PC National Champs, (they qualified as part of a team for the 100 eventing, having won the ODE at Areas) - although unfortunately the rest of the team had a few problems with the XC, which was a challenging course. She and Joey had a dressage of 34 in their first ever long arena, and a double clear, but with time faults XC. Issie and Joey also went to Hopetoun to do their second BE100 in July and came eighth with a double clear and a few time faults XC.

Charlotte Jand her pony Hazel were selected for areas, and qualified as individuals for the dressage in the regional champs ( she and Hazel came 2nd at Areas ) and as part of the team for the 80 jumping (they won). It was her first time at the Regional Champs and she came 4th in her section at dressage and although the team weren’t placed in the SJ, she jumped her biggest round yet at 90 with just one pole down.

Mischa Sand Charlotte J both competed in the showjumping at Perth Show with Mischa winning the 80cm and Charlotte coming second.

Sasha N and her horse Bailey have also both had a busy summer. Sasha qualified for PC Champs with an Individual first at the Area Eventing competition for the third year running and first with her Team and came first with the same team at the dressage qualifier. Sasha was also first Individually and first with her Team in the Novice Eventing Pony Club Championships.

“Well done girls. I’m very proud of you all,” said Kilraston’s Equestrian Manager, Raechel MacLean

Sport at Kilgraston

It’s exam results day 2018 across Scotland and Kilgraston is delighted to announce a particularly successful year

“What is, I think, most remarkable about all girls at Kilgraston is that they will embark upon their chosen courses with many other skills and talents. They are likely to have studied another language, a humanitarian subject, a creative subject and developed the inherent skills of those subjects along the way. As a non-selective school, we are equally proud of our girls who have achieved their absolute potential and will be awarded with a creditable set of results. As a non-selective school, we are equally proud of our girls who have achieved their absolute potential and will be awarded with a creditable set of results. Kilgraston is fully committed to the Scottish Education examination system which gives pupils a breadth of choice in terms of subjects and the flexibility to change courses after their Lower Sixth year. Scientists can also study a language or history. Many of our Upper Sixth girls have made the most of this opportunity and have honed their subject choices and exam success to the requirements of their choice of undergraduate courses. Very well done to all the girls, staff, parents and guardians who work together to make these results so successful. I’m very proud!” said Mrs Dorothy MacGinty, Head of Kilgraston

  • ADVANCED HIGHERS - Kilgraston pupils have had an excellent year with 92.3% pass rate at A-C and 67% at A-B against national average of 80.5% A-C and 58.2% A-B
  • All pupils have achieved their first choice of university, none requiring ‘clearing’
  • HIGHERS - Kilgraston pupils have achieved an impressive 88% pass rate in A-C and 66% at A-B compared to national average of 76.8% at A-C
  • This year all pupils passed Latin, German and Music Higher with an A
  • NATIONAL FIVES – Kilgraston pupils achieved 92.4% A-C, compared to the national average of 77.4%. This year’s S4 results exceeded the very high standards of 2017, raising the National 5 A grades from 58% to 62%. Remarkably most of these girls take 8 or 9 National 5 subjects which is also above the national trend.
  • One Kilgraston Upper Sixth pupil, on the back of her three As in Advanced Higher results in Physics, Chemistry and Maths, has been offered a scholarship to the University of St Andrews. She achieved straight As, while simultaneously playing for the national hockey team! A fantastic achievement.

Many thanks to Andrew Milligan of the Press Association for allowing us to use his wonderful images of our girls receiving their results. Here is a link to the ITV website, The Scotsman , Bromsgrove Advertiser , Aberdeen Evening Express and The Times: who all thought our pictures were pretty good too…
