Science Laboratory Technician

This is an opportunity to work in a sector leading independent school, with a team of dedicated and experienced Science teachers. In 2014, Professor Yellowlees, Chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry and Vice President and Head of the School of Science and Engineering at Edinburgh University, formally opened Kilgraston’ s £1million Science Centre. Equestrian Manager


Kilgraston School’s Equestrian Centre is looking for an experienced Equestrian Manager to join the team. Kilgraston is the only school in Scotland with its own equestrian facilities onsite. The Riding Centre comprises of 14 stables, a tack room, a 40m x 60m all-weather floodlit arena, hacking track and a series of well fenced paddocks.


This is a full-time position for a suitably qualified (BHS Stage 3 Coach minimum) and experienced candidate to take responsibility for the organisation and management of our on-site equestrian centre.  They will oversee the provision of quality equestrian instruction and ensure that the stables and outdoor facilities are maintained and run to an exceptionally high standard.


The manager will run a busy riding school, line managed by the Bursar.  They should be experienced at managing a small team of equestrian staff to ensure all deliver the best experience for the pupils, irrespective of their ability and age whilst maintaining the highest of care and welfare standards for the horses and ponies.


Equestrian Manager Role Profile:

  • Tuition in all aspects of riding and stable management from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Co-ordination and scheduling of all lessons, clinics, and camps all year round.
  • Planning, co-ordinating & organising the schools’ equestrian teams for competitions & run competitions inhouse and externally.
  • Licensing and insuring the centre as a riding school in accordance with local authority guidelines.
  • Implementation of health and safety procedures, risk assessments, rider registration and parental disclaimers, horse registration and livery agreements.
  • Revision and creation of the schools’ equestrian policies and procedures.
  • Manage and take responsibility for all aspects of horse welfare.
  • Sourcing of suitable horses and ponies.
  • Implementation and management of yard routine, rotas and regular ‘hands-on’ yard duties including mucking out, clipping, feeding, and sourcing of feed.
  • Take responsibility for grassland, arena, building management and maintenance.
  • Promote the equestrian centre within the school and to the wider community.
  • Management of equestrian staff and volunteers, including delivery of BHS course work and assessment preparation, exam applications etc.
  • Planning and organisation of Vets, Farriers and any other specialist required for the wellbeing of our horses.
  • Procurement and purchasing of consumables and equipment.
  • Budget management.
  • Take management responsibility for the communications relating to the equestrian centre.

Scottish Swimmers Learn to Swim Programme Swimming Teachers and Lifeguards

(Permanent Full-time / Part-time and Seasonal Positions)

Kilgraston School is looking for enthusiastic and motivated swimming teachers and lifeguards to deliver our Learn to Swim Programme in conjunction with the Scottish Swimming National Framework.

Your main duties will include the preparation and delivery of swimming lessons to all ages and abilities, including Kilgraston school pupils and members of the local community. Teachers should use their own initiative in delivery but will be supported by a Swimming Pool Manager. Teachers and lifeguards should also be committed to flexible working arrangements that are agreed mutually. Great team working attributes are essential for all.

We are looking for:

  • Level 1 ASA / UKCC qualified swimming instructors (Level 2 qualification is desirable).
  • Appropriate Lifesaving Qualification (RLSS or STA Pool Lifeguard Qualification is essential).
  • Teachers with experience of teaching young people/specific target groups and preparing lesson plans.
  • Teachers who are passionate about swimming, who are keen to learn and develop.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond appropriately and professionally.
  • Teachers who are motivated to make a difference in swimming.

Drivers, with category D1 as a minimum, are required for our School Minibuses. The hours are variable and ad-hoc in nature, including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
