Scottish Prep Schools Ski Championships 2023

Our Junior ski team travelled to Glenshee for the Scottish Prep Schools Ski Championships 2023 – although on arrival you would be forgiven for thinking we had been transported to the Alps – blue skies, cold snow and not a breath of wind, definitely not typical Scottish conditions!

After an inspection of the perfectly prepared 24-gate course, our teams gathered excitedly at the start, to wait for their first runs. All our racers put down clean runs first time, which built lots of confidence to really attack the course for their second runs – with some noticeably faster and more aggressive skiing, which definitely paid off.

The Kilgraston team finished fifth place overall with silver medals for Darcy, Minnie and Jessica in the female team category, and individual bronze medals for Freya in both the U11 and overall female event. Fantastic skiing from all our racers, and a day we won’t forget for a long time.

Kilgraston competes at SSSA Dual Slalom Event

Pupils were thrilled to represent Kilgraston at this year’s SSSA Dual Slalom Event with two junior teams and three senior teams taking part.

All of the racers skied really well and there was such a super team spirit within the Kilgraston teams! Even a couple of tumbles didn’t put anyone off, but they showed such great resilience. The Junior A team (Elsie, Lochie, Freya and Darcy) were thrilled to come away with silver medals!

The senior teams also all skied very well and the s1-3 Senior team came home with bronze (Heidi, Lucy, Isla and Helena)!

The Junior team will now go through to the finals which will be held in Glasgow in November.

Ski Trip 2022

Over Easter, PE department staff Mrs Ferry, Miss Patton and Miss Dutch took a group of pupils to Austria on the first overseas ski trip since the start of the pandemic in 2020. The group of 23 pupils and staff went to Alpendorf, in the Eastern Alps and had a fantastic time. Here Martina writes about the trip:

The 2022 ski trip was to Alpendorf, Austria, a beautiful place with amazing landscapes. During the five days we spent there, we had a range of activities. In the evenings we took part in Alpine Coaster and Bowling, which helped us get along and have fun while mixing all together.

Every day we had a buffet breakfast with many different savoury and sweet options, then every day we got a €10 voucher with which we could buy our lunch on the slopes and then we had dinner which included a soup as a starter, a main course and a dessert.

Each day we got five hours of skiing guided by instructors that taught us new skills and helped us improve while enjoying ourselves. I think it was an amazing experience that helped us create new friendships in between year groups and discover some new skills or passions for skiing or mountains.
