The B team consisting of Mhairi Knox, Kenna McKenna, Maia McLaren and Emma Leslie had a great game with the final score being 16 - 16!

Well done girls.

Humanities Day

The day began with a keynote speech from Natalie Haynes, author of The Classical Guide to the Modern World and former Perrier-nominated stand-up comedian, on the importance of following your passion. After this, the girls broke up into groups for a series of workshops: first, Jo Haskins, project manager at Turner & Townsend, led a session on planning a refugee camp; then Professor Tim Whitmarsh of the Faculty of Classics at the University of Cambridge gave a presentation on how the works of Homer might have been performed, including references to modern-day allusions; and finally, Anna Chrystal of the Lapworth Museum of Geology at the University of Birmingham gave the girls some hands-on experience of studying fossils. Over lunch there was a higher education and careers fair in the school library then, to end the day, Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE spoke of his extraordinary feats of physical and mental endurance and his undiminishing desire for exploring.

I will leave the final word to Sir Ranulph – when asked what advice he had for the girls in the audience, he told the story of being left in charge of Elizabeth, his 11-year-old daughter, for the first time. His wife had given him a list of things that Elizabeth was and was not allowed to do. When Elizabeth did something on the banned list, Sir Ranulph told her: ‘You’re not allowed to do that.’
‘Daddy,’ she replied. ‘Shut up.’

Ardvreck Netball Tournament

Our Under 11 girls gained 4 points through 2 losses and a draw but improved over the day.

Kilgraston Under 13 girls beat Strathallan 7-1, Belhaven Hill 9-3 and Loretto 10-0.

The final against Craigclowan was close all the way through but unfortunately the girls were beaten 12-10.

Well done girls, a fantastic effort.

Junior Years visit Edinburgh Castle

The girls had two tours, in which they dressed as knights in battle and visited Mons Meg and the Great Hall among other top attractions. The highlight of the day was being given the opportunity to be right next to the cannon at one o’clock for it to be fired. Mr Dunphie kindly arranged a VIP experience for us and the girls loved it! Ear defenders and fingers in ears were definitely the order of the day!

Senior Hockey Champions 2017

Kilgraston’s first game was against Firrhill Edinburgh, winning 2 - 0 (Katie Stott and Rebecca Wright scoring). Their second game was against Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen, winning 1 - 0 (Katie Stott). With a second win under their belts, Kilgraston were top of their section and played Strathallan in the final. At full time the score was 0- 0 and the winners were decided by running penalties. Successful penalties from Katie and Michaela brought the score to 2 - 2 with Emily Dark up last. Emily maintained her composure and slotted home, giving Kilgraston a 3 - 2 victory.

Final placings were:

6th Firrhill School
5th St Margarets, Aberdeen
3rd equal High School of Dundee and Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen
2nd Strathallan
1st Kilgraston

Well done girls, a fantastic day and victory.

United Nations Visit

The girls also had the rare opportunity to have a meeting with a UNICEF agent who works with the rehabilitation of children who have been affected by war and conflict in Uganda and Nigeria The group also visited the Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum learning about what can be done to help those caught up in natural disasters and conflicts.

Although it was a very busy couple of days the girls benefited greatly from this humanitarian trip.
