Daisy Chain Challenge

Last week, the Junior Years took part in their annual ‘House Daisy Chain Challenge’. The houses were to make the longest daisy chain and also create artwork using the flowers. There was great team work, creativity and competitiveness on display. Well done girls!

Kilgraston Cycling Club

Mr McAuley has started an informal cycling club in the school. We would like to invite parents to join us. Cycles will be fairly frequent, at various times, and not too serious! You can come and go as suits. The longer term target is to get a team for an Etape next year and have some fun raising money for a charity.

To join the KCC email group contact [email protected] and he will keep you in touch with dates and hopefully you can join us.

Tennis and Rounders Results

Last week was a very busy week for tennis and rounders with our U3/Under team coming 3rd and 4th at the Morrison’s tournament. On Monday, Kilgraston played all the Scottish games at U13 level and won 2, lost one.

On Wednesday, the Under 11 teams played Cargilfield.

The results were:

Under 11 A Kilgraston v Under 11 A Cargilfield - Kilgraston won 21.5 - 13
Under 11 B Kilgraston v Under 11 C Cargilfield - Kilgraston won 14.5 - 13

Awesome play from the girls, who unsurprisingly, were delighted with the scores.

Well done to all the players.

Kilgraston Spring Fair

Through a lot of hard work and months of meetings and planning, the KPA delivered a fantastic fun-filled afternoon of activities for the whole family. Parents and children took part in an extremely competitive tennis tournament. Off the courts, children spent the afternoon on the bouncy castles, trampolines and feasting at the many sweet and food stalls around the grounds. This year, Kilgraston introduced pony rides, which were a huge hit with the children and visitors. Girls from Kilgraston School set up their own stalls selling cakes, ice-creams and raffle tickets whilst staff put on a number of sporting activities for all to get involved. Entertainment was provided by Kilgraston Jazz Band, which certainly added to the fun filled atmosphere.

As always, the day was a huge success with over 350 visitors attending. We would like to thank all of the businesses, families, staff and individuals who supported the Spring Fair and of course applaud the KPA on the tremendous effort they put in making the day such a great success.

Kilgraston Rounders Tournament

On Wednesday, we welcomed over 100 girls to play at our Kilgraston Rounders tournament and it was an excellent day.

Our girls had the following results:

Kilgraston v Cargilfield - won 6 - 5.5
Kilgrasotn v Ardvreck - won 7 - 5.5
Kilgraston v St Mary’s Melrose - won 9 - 5
Kilgraston v Strathallan - won 8 - 5

In the other section Fettes won all their games, so the final was Kilgraston v Fettes.

Fettes scored 4.5 after their 10-minute innings and Kilgraston scored 4 rounders, therefore Fettes won the tournament by 1/2 a rounder.

Woodland Eco System

Last week, we held the grand opening of the Woodland Eco System at Kilgraston School. Well done to all the girls and staff for creating a fantastic space for all of the wildlife in the area including the red squirrels. Cameras have been installed around the woodland in order to capture footage of the wildlife visiting their new home!

Kilgraston Equestrian Championships

A new combined training class was introduced to start the day, a walk/trot dressage test and 50cm jumping, which was won by Strathallan, with Maia Flemming taking individual 1st.

Class 2 was our Junior Under 12 Combined Training Class where Kilgraston came out on top for the team results and also the individual with Erin MacGregor and Buzz in 1st place and Mischa Steele and Pebbles in 2nd place. The winning team for Kilgraston in class 2 were Olivia Kilic, Mischa Steele, Erin McGregor and Camryn Wilson. Olivia was competing in her first competition for Kilgraston with her pony Sooty and finished 3rd in the 50cm Show Jumping and had a clear round in the 65cm Show Jumping.

The 75cm Show Jumping came next, which was the first NSEA qualifier. A huge well done to the Kilgraston team of Mischa Steele, Daisy Lockhart, Camryn Wilson and Erin MacGregor who won the class and have qualified for the championships. Maia Flemming of Strathallan and Jennifer Campbell of Glasgow Academy have also qualified as individuals coming 1st and 2nd.

Class 3 was the busiest class of the day, the Intermediate Combined Training. It was Strathallan on top this time in the team’s competition, with Kelso High School coming second and Kilgraston in 3rd place. Individual Dressage went to Sorrell Feather of George Heriots and Individual Show Jumping to Vicky Edgar of Kelso High.

In the 95cm Show Jumping, it was a very close call as to who won those qualifying tickets but Vicky Edgar just beat teammate Louise Hebdon of Kelso High to the red rosette. Team qualifications went to both Kelso High for 1st and 2nd place.

The last class of the day was the Open Combined Training, which consists of Novice Dressage and 1m-1.05m Show Jumping. Eilidh MacAulay of Morrison’s Academy led all the way through going on to win the Dressage, Show Jumping and Combined Training. Kilgraston’s Anna Smallwood came 2nd in the Show Jumping also qualifying for the championships, in the Dressage it was Issie Bamford of George Heriot’s who came second to Eilidh and also qualified.

Many thanks to Pentland Land Rover for sponsoring the event and presenting the prizes to all of the winners on the day. Congratulations to everyone who competed and we look forward to welcoming you all back at our next event.
