RAF STEM WORKSHOP

On Friday, we were very lucky to have the RAF Education Division in school promoting Engineering as a career option to the girls. Part of the workshop included experiencing the levels of noise produced by a jet engine!

A video can be viewed on the school’s Instagram and Facebook page.

Halloween Party

On Monday 30th October, the Upper Sixth girls invited the Junior Boarders to the sixth form boarding area for a Halloween party. The younger girls impressed the older girls with their jokes when they went trick or treating around the boarding house. We then went into the common room where the fun continued with some very competitive apple bobbing and a very sticky donut game. Much fun was had by all.

First Cap for Emily

Over the half term, Emily Dark and Katie Robertson (ex KG girl) played against Ireland.

Emily became the youngest ever player to be given a cap! Her coach Gordon Shepherd added, “Emily is an exciting prospect and has progressed massively this year.”

Katie Robertson is also training with the 19 – 23 years age group for Great Britain.

Congratulations to our two Kilgraston girls, a huge achievement!

Bluett Tours - Athens

The annual Bluett Tour with 29 girls and five adults set off for Athens on 6 October for a week packed with culture, sun and delicious Greek food. Highlights included the temple of Athena on the Acropolis, the temple of Poseidon at Sounion, the five thousand seat theatre at Epidaurus, the original Olympic village, and the seat of the Pythian oracle at Delphi. One day was spent on a cruise of the Saronic Gulf visiting the islands of Hydra, Poros and Aegina. The highlight of the cruise was the traditional Greek dancing lesson to the immortal tunes from Zorba the Greek. The sun shone on a deep blue sea every day, much to the delight of the girls who were even able to swim at Tolon.

In amongst the many and varied blocks of stone and pillars that make up archaeological sites, the girls managed to distinguish between Doric, Ionic and Corinthian columns (helped by a tour of Corinth) with the expert aid of our two Greek guides, Dora and Maria. The hotel in Athens was next door to a 24 hour bakery which offered an on tap supply of delicious pastries, cakes, ice-creams and biscuits, and the quarter of Plaka provided an abundance of irresistible touristic shopping. All in all, there was truly something for everyone and we all learnt at least to say Good Morning in Greek: Kalimera!!

Cultural trip to India

On Monday 10th October, we waved goodbye to eight Kilgraston girls, Mrs Lund and Chaplain as they embarked on a once in a lifetime journey to the Unison World School (UWS) in India. UWS is an all-girls residential school in Dehradun, set in the foothills of the Himalayas and is ranked as number three school in India.

Over the last three years, Kilgraston has welcomed a group of UWS students to experience an education in the UK and learn all about the Scottish culture: it was now Kilgraston’s turn to travel nearly 5,000 miles. The Exchange Programme with UWS will continue to promote the advancement of international understanding, the dissemination of learning and strengthening of cultural ties.

On arrival in Dehradun, the girls were welcomed by Mrs. Veena Singh, Principal Unison World School, and the UWS students with marigold garlands and vermilion. The Indian traditional welcome was a beautiful start to their cultural experience. As well as fully embracing the Indian culture, the girls will be presenting and performing traditional Scottish dances to the girls and staff of UWS.

We are looking forward to receiving further updates from the group.

The Chaplain is using Twitter to post updates and photographs and these can be here

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Thank you to everyone who supported our Macmillan Coffee Morning by donating cakes, coming along to the event and to Abby, Daisy, Emily, Lara and Rebecca, for helping to run the event. We raised a grand total of £250.

Laura and Sarah Inglis, Grace Simmons and Emma Fitzhenry (pictured) all helped at a MacMillan Coffee Morning in St John’s R.C. Church Hall today. The girls took donations, sold raffle tickets handed out prizes and helped clear the hall. It was a very busy morning ending with £650 being raised for MacMillan. The organisers praised the girls for their helpfulness, cheerfulness and friendliness.

Well done girls.
