A community at heart

Kilgraston Community Week was all about building up and strengthening the already tight bonds that make the experience at our school precisely that…an experience of community.

The week was divided up into the aspects of community that we are all part of here at Kilgraston, which are the Sacred Heart Schools Network community, local and global communities and our families as a community. We started each day with an assembly focusing on one particular community type, with related activities to follow during the day.

On day five we concluded with our findings, shared our creativity and celebrated a very successful week. Activities included Sacred Heart cookie making, chains of paper people, the well-known and much loved ‘Talentless Show’, plus family trees and the writing of poems. By the end of the week the whole school was buzzing with even more spirit!

Christmas Concert 2012

On Friday 7th December we had a wonderful start to Christmas as the Perth Concert Hall was filled with over 1,000 voices singing carols and Christmas songs. There were some outstanding performances and everyone left the evening with a spring in their step as we head towards Christmas. Thank you to everyone who attended and special thanks to the girls who performed so wonderfully from Reception right through to Upper 6th.

Cooks get creative

On Friday 30th November the U4 girls took part in a cooking competition here at Kilgraston - with a special guest to judge each delicious creation.

All the girls did extremely well, Tim Dover from The Roost was very impressed with the results but found it extremely difficult to judge due to the high standards across the board.

There had to be a winner, and this was awarded to Susie Dougall with her Salmon Fishcakes served with salad, chilli sauce and roasted potato cubes, followed by Plum Crumble.

The runner-up was Daisy Deards with her Pan Fried Pheasant, Potato Rosti with cabbage and bacon and a cream sauce, followed by Mincemeat tart with Orange cream filling.

Two Highly commended were Katie Stott (Venison Loin with spicy onion marmalade, Fondant Potato and vegetables followed by Fruit Crumble) and Grace Reilly (Steak with Mushroom, Whisky Cream Sauce and Vegetables followed by a Trio of Scottish Desserts).

There was also a special mention for a highly commended dessert – Talitha Thompson’s rice pudding with fruit compote, plus a highly commended main course made by Alicia Boyle with her Ginger Salmon with Samphire.

Both the winner and runner-up will help to prepare and serve a Charity meal at The Roost Restaurant on 13th March 2013.Well done to all of those who took part and many thanks to Tim Dover for judging a delicious array of dishes.

Riding to success

Georgina Chalmers-Gray and Prince Lochnagar of Moulzie (her 7 year old Highland Pony better known as ‘Harry’) have certainly had a busy year. Since November 2011 they have competed throughout the UK and collected some very impressive awards along the way.

As well as involvement in a Dressage to Music Demonstration in April and a showing demonstration last month, they were also awarded the junior Performance Trophy by the Highland Pony Society. In July they were crowned Champion Junior at the Highland Pony Breed Show, and whilst there also picked up the Junior Dressage and the Junior Working Hunter Trophies. The pair were also 4th and 5th in the Novice and Prelim Junior sections at the prestigious NPS Dressage Championships at Addington Manor (Bucks) in April, as well as finishing 3rd in a more advanced Elementary class.

During their first One Day Event they finished 2nd overall, with the plan to compete in December at both Gleneagles and the Performance Scheme for the Highland Pony Society.

To top it all off, the pair have recently joined British Dressage and selected to represent Scotland, what a way to round off a fantastic year - well done to Georgina and Harry!
