Kilgraston Prep School is for girls between the ages of 5 and 13 years. Boarding is available from age 8. The Prep School is located within The Grange, a stunning conversion of Kilgraston’s 18th Century farm courtyard. The stimulating and attractive classrooms surround a magnificent glass-covered atrium, an excellent enclosed area that is used for Assemblies, performances, concerts and a wet-day play area, indoor tennis, karate, the list is endless.

The School is renowned for successfully blending the caring, happy atmosphere of a family home with an environment which enables and encourages young children to develop to the very best of their individual abilities. Intellect, curiosity, personal endeavour, determination and achievement are fostered and well supported.

Emphasis is placed on learning skills which allow individual pupils to pursue their learning within and beyond the classroom. Our pupils are, at appropriate stages of their Prep School education, given responsibilities which can include House Captains, Sports Captains, Librarians, or for example joining the Pupil Council ‘Eco Committee’ or Food committee Committee.

Curriculum

Prep pupils study a wide syllabus based on the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence at Early, First, Second, Third and Fourth stages, which prepares them for entry into the Senior School at Kilgraston. We will also help prepare pupils moving on to other senior schools, with exceptionally high percentage of our pupils remaining at Kilgraston as an all through girls school from Nursery continuing through the years to the end of Sixth From at eighteen years of age.

High priority is given to all curricular areas: English, Maths and Science, French (and experience of other modern languages throughout Prep school), Technology, History, Geography, Music, Drama, Art, Physical Education and Religious Moral Education, with Latin introduced at Senior Prep years.

Emphasis is placed on learning and thinking skills which allow individual pupils to develop and extend their learning in all areas. This thoroughly prepares them for progression and smooth transition into Senior School, building a strong foundation for future academic and life success
