Every girl who joins Kilgraston, whether in the Prep or the Senior School, belongs to a house.
In the Prep School, the houses compete in each of the major sports every year as well as vie for the house cup. The cup is awarded to the house with the most number of house points awarded in the year. House points are given for excellence in academic work, service to the community and for enterprise and achievement in each area of school life. The three Prep houses are Ptarmigan, Capercaillie and Osprey.
In the senior school, there are four houses - Arran, Inchcolm, Kinnoull and Moncreiffe and every senior girl, boarder and day, belongs to her house for the whole of her school career. The house is at the heart of pastoral care. Each house is led by a Housemistress who is assisted by a team of tutors and there is a tutor for every year group in each house.
Your daughter’s tutor and Housemistress will be at the centre of all communication between home and school and will provide encouragement and support whenever needed throughout her time at Kilgraston. We are very committed to providing the highest level of pastoral care to every girl who comes to Kilgraston. Girls meet with their tutors every morning and every Friday they have a house meeting with their Housemistress. The girls themselves are very much encouraged to be part of the pastoral care system and the senior girls will act as mentors and coaches to the younger pupils.
Each house appoints, from amongst its own, a head and deputy head of house as well as a sports captain.
Similar to the Prep School, many events are organised on a house basis and the girls take a great pride in their house’s performance in the various sporting, academic and cultural competitions which take place throughout the year. There is an ethos of friendly rivalry which as well as creating a lot of fun also creates opportunities to build both team and leadership skills.
