Head Girl: Iona Godfrey-Faussett
This is my fifth year at Kilgraston and I can honestly say that I have loved every minute of being a part of this special school. I have never set foot in such a caring, welcoming place where there is such a tight-knit community made up of both pupils and staff. Kindness flows through every year, no matter what the age difference. Kilgraston has taught me so much and I know for a fact that I would not be the same person I am today without it. I have been a boarder since I came to Kilgraston, which has been amazing – the boarding staff work so hard to make the boarding areas a home from home and I have made some truly wonderful memories in boarding.
Phoebe, Ruth and I, as well as the rest of the Upper Sixth, are so excited to be able to help make this year the best it can possibly be for every single member of our school community. There are some particularly exciting occasions to look forward to this year, such as the opportunity for our choir to sing at the Vatican in February, as well as our many annual events and a number of new ideas we are planning to introduce. And of course, the much-loved Big Friendly Girl (BFG) system will continue!
It is sometimes quite hard to believe just how much Kilgraston has to offer. There is so much enthusiasm running through every aspect of the school and it is very important to throw yourself into as much as you can and to embrace every moment of it. Amongst other things, I am a member of 5 music groups, 2 sports teams, and I am currently completing my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, all of which are incredibly rewarding. Next year I hope to study French at University, and I feel very lucky to have the amazing support from the teaching staff who help to prepare every girl for whichever path she wishes to take in life after Kilgraston.
I encourage every single girl to treasure every moment of being part of our Kilgraston family.

Coming to Kilgraston from the biggest primary school in Perth was a big change, and my 11 year old self felt excited as well as a wee bit scared. However over the past six years, I could not have imagined a better place to spend my secondary education.
As I go on towards university, to study Social and Political Science, and the work place I will always remember Kilgraston as the place that allowed me to become who I am, the environment in which I thrived. It certainly will be difficult leaving in June, however I look forward to returning for quintessential events such as the Christmas Concert, the Lily Procession and Sports Day.
Looking back I can safely say that my time here has shaped me as a person, through the Sacred Heart values, the network of support available to every single girl, the friends I have gained and even the school mottos: Cor Unum – One Heart, and Viriliter Age – Act with Determination.
It is the latter phrase that I hope to guide me in my last year as Iona, Ruth and I work together with the Upper Sixth and staff to make our time left here the best it can be. The former phrase has affected me deeply, as I went on exchange to Washington D.C. and realised that the Sacred Heart network is really something very special. In addition, it is this motto that forms our hockey chant and therefore it will always fill me with a feeling of being a part of a team, whether that’s in sports, friends or school.
I have been lucky enough to benefit from almost every aspect of Kilgraston life: school orchestras, sports teams, jazz band, puzzle club, the Kilgraston Action Group and so on. In all of those groups I have been made to feel welcome and I think that this community (more like a family) feel is really what makes Kilgraston the special place it is.

When I started as a day pupil at Kilgraston five years ago Upper Sixth seemed like it was so far away that it wasn’t worth worrying about, but the time really has flown by and I am sure my last day of school will creep up on me just as fast. Filling my time with so many extra-curricular activities such as wind ensemble, hockey, jazz band and Gold Duke of Edinburgh has given me the opportunity to develop valuable skills.
Taking part in a school exchange to a Sacred Heart school in Connecticut last year has helped me realise how broad our network is and how universal the goals of the Sacred Heart are. This year’s goal is Intellect and I am looking forward to implementing this in day to day school life through various events and activities we will organise this year.
I feel incredibly fortunate to be on the Head Girl Team with two of my friends, each of us keen to work together and make a positive difference at Kilgraston. I hope that we will be able to ensure that all the opportunities we were given continue and thrive, ensuring younger girls fulfil their dreams just like we have.
Next year I plan to study Engineering at university and I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
