Sixth Form Centre
The newly opened Sixth Form Centre provides both Lower and Upper Sixth (S5 and S6) with quiet and spacious surroundings of their own in which to study.
Day girls have their own desk areas, which they can use as a base for all of their books and coursework and both boarders and day girls alike use the communal table space for group work.
The individual carrels provide the girls with a university library atmosphere and the kind of learning environment that they will be acquainted with as undergraduate students at university. Girls can have discussions about their work without directly impacting the private study of other students; the girls have privacy whilst still benefiting from working together.
“The centre has definitely helped with our work this term…being in an area that has only ever signified a working environment has seemed to have an impact.” Zara Collings, U6.
“The sense of ownership by having individual desks gives everyone their own space to ponder over the weeks work. We definitely feel a sense of attachment to the area and take great pride in having this room to ourselves.” Hannah Reynolds, U6.
“Already, teachers report an improvement in the quality of work produced outside of the classroom, and students feel more confident about the meeting of deadlines. Girls have an increased awareness of the work their classmates are putting into their respective studies, and group achievement is raised as a whole.” Tim Kearns, Acting Head of Upper Sixth
