The Preparatory School

The children study a wide syllabus, broadly based on the Scottish 5-14 curriculum which prepares them to take the 13+, Common Entrance or individual Senior School exams as required.
High priority is given to English, Maths and Science throughout. French, ICT,Technology, Environmental Studies, Drama, Music, Art, PE and RME are taught from the age of 5, with Latin introduced at age 10.
Emphasis is placed on learning skills which allow individual pupils to pursue their learning outside the classroom. This thoroughly prepares our children for Common Entrance and builds a strong foundation for future academic success.

‘The Grange’ is a stunning conversion of Kilgraston’s 18th Century farm courtyard, and home to our Preparatory School. Large, bright classrooms surround a magnificent glass-covered atrium creating a spectacular, enclosed area. The atrium is the heart of the Preparatory School, providing an ideal location for a variety of activities - work, sport, drama, music, plays and daily assembly.
The school is renowned for successfully blending the caring, happy atmosphere of a relaxed, family home with an environment which enables and encourages young children to develop to the very best of their abilities.

Pastoral care at the school is excellent; every aspect of a child’s development is important to us, and our staff respect each child as an individual, helping every one discover and develop their own particular strengths.

Study Club gives the children an opportunity to complete their homework before collection by parents, and there are always sporting, social and cultural activities after school for those who wish to take part.
