We are now open for provisional bookings for our summer camps and we are hopeful this might be from July 13. Please note however, this date is subject to guidance from the Scottish Government and various sporting and other associations which we continue to review and remains subject to change. Please get in touch if you have any questions on this matter via the Mini Camps email.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 2.6.20
Following the First Minister’s published guidelines last Thursday, as we move into
phase 1 of relaxing the lockdown, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. It
is clear now that there will be no return to school in June for Scottish schools but we
are all looking forward to coming back to school in August. We
will therefore continue with our virtual teaching programme after half term.
The final arrangements and risk assessments for returning to school will need to be approved
by the Board of Governors but the Senior Leadership Team have been planning
these over recent weeks, with health and welfare of all pupils, staff and parents as
our first priority. It was made clear last Thursday that it is capacity that will be the
measure and not strictly the number of pupils in the classroom. We are very
fortunate at Kilgraston to have considerable space, both outdoors and in and with
some juggling of classrooms and sets we am hoping to accommodate the whole school
returning in August. Due to some small classrooms, we will be using common rooms
as teaching spaces and the theatre as an additional dining hall. Staggered breaks
and defined entrances for specific year groups will be in operation. When we have
the plans in place, in line with NHS Scotland and government guidelines, which are
likely to change between now and August, we will share them with you.
For overseas boarders, if the requirement to be quarantined remains, we will be
asking them to join us for 2 weeks of morning lessons and activity afternoons before
the start of term. We will also remain open over autumn half term to allow our
boarding girls to stay in Scotland and therefore avoid further quarantine.
The planned dates, at the moment, for returning to school are:
if quarantine applies, overseas boarders should arrive at school on 8 August
all other boarders should arrive on Saturday 22 August
staff will return for orientation and INSET on Friday 21 August
all pupils should return on Monday 24 August
It is likely that there will be no inter-school sports matches, or public drama or music
events. However, these departments are already working on alternative
programmes. We are fortunate to have indoor and outdoor space to accommodate
the new arrangements.
Some additional dates for your diaries are:
Saturday 13 June, Virtual Open Day with Q&A at 11.00am. If you do know of anyone
who might be interested in sending their daughter to Kilgraston, I would be grateful if
you could bring this to their attention. The Open Day film and registration form are on
As you know, it is Kilgraston’s 90th anniversary this year and instead of the live picnic
we had planned, we would like to invite you to a virtual picnic on Wednesday 24 June
at 12.30pm. The format will be two short presentations via Zoom followed by
Governors, staff, parents and girls picnicking in their gardens and then sharing
photographs – hopefully with some bunting! I am aware that some schools are
running virtual Speech Days.
It is such a shame that our wonderful Upper Sixth are
not having the opportunity to celebrate their achievements and contributions to
school life as they move on to the next phase of their adult lives. We would much prefer
to have an actual prize-giving/celebration and if that is not possible in early
September, before they go off to university or college, we will plan for Christmas. It
may be only the Upper Sixth and parents, depending on social distancing guidance
at that time, but it will be wonderful to have girls, parents, staff and governors
together for that occasion.
We will, however, have a virtual Leavers’ Assembly on Friday 26 June at 12:00.
