COVID update 8th March 2021
As you will be aware, Ms Sturgeon announced last Tuesday (2nd March) that all Primary phase children will return to full-time schooling on 15 March as well as senior pupils on a phased return with priority being given to pupils in examination years. We have assessed our accommodation in line with the regulatory requirements of two metre distancing to evaluate how many girls we could feasibly have back from 15 March. Another challenge will be how the children move around the school, how they can be seated for lunch and training them in the required protocol to ensure everyone’s safety. Having conducted a thorough risk assessment we have agreed on the following arrangement for the return to school:
15 March: all Junior Years pupils and all girls in years U5, L6 and U6 to return.
17 March: all L5 pupils to return
22 March: all L4 and U4 pupils to return
This phased return will afford us the opportunity to familiarise the pupils in the protocols which will include a one-way system around corridors, where some classrooms have been relocated to accommodate class sizes as well as social distancing. As far as possible, we will be keeping juniors and senior in their own bubbles whilst still recognising that L3 and U3 are also taught by senior staff.
If your child travels on a school minibus, Mrs Mackie will be in contact with you as we may need to alter some routes and timings. There will be no lunchtime or after school activities or study club for the final two weeks of this term to minimise contact across bubbles and risk of infection. School minibuses will leave at 4.15pm and children being collected by parents at the end of the day should be collected by 4.30pm. Hopefully, clubs and activities can resume after the Easter break.
To minimise close contact, we are asking all pupils to return to school wearing PE kit negating the need to be in a changing room with each other. It is essential that they have wet weather jackets in case of inclement weather as we are not permitted to exercise indoors. It would be helpful, if possible, to have a change of shoes. The senior girls will not have the use of locker rooms and therefore, please bring to school what is actually needed on each day. All senior girls and Upper 3 when attending lessons in senior school are required to wear face coverings. As this is now mandatory, anyone who has a medical exemption will need to provide a letter to that effect. Pupils should revert to the entrance and exit doors used last term. We will no longer be taking temperatures but will continue to use hand sanitiser and ventilate rooms well. In addition, senior phase pupils (U5-U6) will be given Lateral Flow testing kit to use twice a week; we recommend Wednesday and Sunday, although this is voluntary we encourage everyone to participate.
Hopefully after Easter, many of these restrictions will be lifted allowing a more normal school experience. In the meantime, thank you again for your support and we look forward to welcoming the school back, albeit gradually, from next week.
