Scholarships


Application is open to all girls currently in school and all seeking admission
(*except for Riding Scholarships)

Kilgraston offers up to four major academic or other scholarships each year, two of which award up to half boarding fees and two up to half day fees. Scholarships can only be awarded to girls who sit the scholarship and entry examination in February and who are below the upper age limit for the year in question. These papers also form the entry qualification for the school.

Academic Scholarships

These are awarded as a result of outstanding performance in the examination and girls may also be called for interview.

Major Scholarships

These will be awarded only to outstanding candidates. The school reserves the right to make no major award should suitable candidates not emerge from the examination and assessment.
Major Scholarships include awards for Art and Music for which candidates must show an adequate standard in the English /Maths (up to U5); and English (L/U6) examinations, though the award will be made on the following:

Art Scholarships

Requirements: An interview in which the candidate is able to demonstrate an interest in and a knowledge of Art and a strong portfolio which contains a variety of artwork covering drawing, painting, design and craftwork. A short drawing test to assess:
a) Observation
b) Media handling
c) Maturity and imagination

Music Scholarships

Requirements: For entry to Lower 4th (Sl) upwards:
Minimum standard: Associated
Board Grade 4.
a) Performance of two contrasting pieces. on a main instrument.
b) Two or three scales and arpeggios.
c) Short sight-reading test.
d) Aural tests on pitch, rhythm and pulse.
e) General knowledge Questions related to pieces

In addition the candidate MAY play one piece on another instrument.
N.B. Copies of pieces must be brought with the candidate. Accompaniments: Candidates may wish to bring their own accompanist. If an accompanist is required, this should be indicated and copies of the music sent to the school at least two weeks in advance.
The successful candidate is expected to give a musical performance, be technically competent, have good aural awareness and show an understanding of basic musical concepts The award will be dependent upon quality of performance rather than on an advanced standard.

Tennis Scholarships


Scholarships are offered to promising players with a sound playing record and good potential. Major awards are worth up to half boarding or day fees. Some smaller awards may be offered. Tennis Scholars are offered a playing and training programme supervised by the Director of Tennis. Please contact the school for an application form and assessment details.

Riding Scholarships


Riding Scholarships are offered to *senior members of the riding team with a good riding record, who have consistently supported the riding team.
